The Bureau of Burundi National Assembly validated the strategic plan for 2024-2029 during the meeting chaired by the Speaker of the National Assembly, the Right Honorable Gelase Daniel Ndabirabe, January 11, 2024. This strategic plan is inspired by the President of the Republic’s vision for 2040 and 2060.
The plan was presented by the Secretary-general of the National Assembly, who pointed out that the National Assembly had already achieved 80% of the objectives set by Vision 2040 during the 2020-2025 legislature.
This strategic plan focuses on three main areas. The first concerns the organisational and institutional development of the National Assembly. It aims to strengthen the institution’s capacities and improve its internal functioning. The second concerns the fulfilment of the National Assembly’s constitutional responsibilities. These include drafting and adopting laws, monitoring the Government action and representing citizens. Finally, the third area concerns support in raising awareness and mobilising the population for peace.
During the meeting, participants made a number of observations aimed at improving the document. After constructive discussions, the National Assembly’s strategic plan for the period 2024 to 2029 was approved, with a few proposed amendments. It will constitute a roadmap for this parliamentary institution and will guide its actions and initiatives over the coming years for the well-being of the country.
