By virtue of the provisions of the provisions of article 91, paragraph 2 of the Constitution of the Republic of Burundi, seven new candidate members of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI in French acronym) were approved by the National Assembly in its turn during the plenary session of December 7, 2023, following their approval by the Senate on December 6, 2023.
They will therefore be appointed by presidential decree in accordance with this previous law, given that they were approved separately by the National Assembly and the Senate by an absolute majority.
The candidates approved by ninety-five (95) MPs who were sitting during the approval, are:
NTAHORWAMIYE Prosper, Hutu, President of the Independent National Electoral Commission;
NAHIMANA Victoire, Tutsi, Deputy-President of the Independent National Electoral Commission;
BIZUMUREMYI Odette, Commissioner in charge of Administration and Finance;
NYANDWI Sylvestre, Hutu, Commissioner in charge of Legal Affairs and Electoral Disputes;
BIZIMANA François, Hutu, commissioner in charge of Electoral Education and Communication;
NDAYIRAGIJE Léonidas, Hutu, Commissioner in charge of Operations, Electoral IT and Equipment Maintenance;
BUGAGA Gabby, Tutsi, Commissioner in charge of Electoral Logistics and Supplies.
