"Helping your neighbor brings divine blessings". This was declared by the Second Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Honorable Abel Gashatsi, at the celebration of the national day dedicated to local solidarity. The event took place on Friday, August 4, 2023, in his native village in Mbuye commune, Muramvya province.
On that occasion, fifteen destitute people were assisted with rice, beans and soap.
The administrator of Mbuye commune, Mrs. Evelyne Ndayisasirire, appreciated Honorable Gashatsi for having graced the day’s activities. She also urged those people to continue in the spirit of mutual assistance, especially for those in distress.
The Second Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly emphasised on the spirit of mutual aid that should characterize every individual, recalling that in the past, our ancestors used to help each other in any situation that occured, bad or good.
To this end, he asked everyone to continue this good practice, which embodies the unity and love that Burundians often sing about.
Abel Gashatsi also expressed his wish to set up an association or cooperative to bring together the underprivileged, with a view to finding income-generating activities for them.
