On the afternoon of Friday August 18, 2023, the Right Honourable Gelase Daniel Ndabirabe, Speaker of the National Assembly, had the pleasure of receiving in audience Madame Jilly Elibariki Maleko, Ambassador of the United Republic of Tanzania to Burundi. She had come to bid him farewell, as her term of office was coming to an end. During their meeting, they discussed the activities carried out during her term of office.
The Ambassador of the United Republic of Tanzania expressed his gratitude for the exemplary collaboration of the Burundian authorities, starting with His Excellency the President of the Republic of Burundi, Evariste Ndayishimiye, the Speaker of the National Assembly, the Right Honorable Gelase Daniel Ndabirabe, and other eminent figures in the country. Mrs Maleko also emphasized that cordial relations between Burundi and the United Republic of Tanzania are well established, as evidenced by the cooperation and exchange of experience in various sectors such as agriculture, livestock, health, education and many others.
The Speaker of Burundi’s Lower Chamber of Parliament expressed his satisfaction at the fruitful cooperation between the two countries, and the exemplary collaboration of the Ambassador during her term of office. According to Right Honorable Ndabirabe, this period was marked by unforgettable moments for Burundians and the Tanzanian people, with excellent relations and numerous activities carried out. He also pointed out that the United Republic of Tanzania had granted nationality to Burundians residing on its territory, which testifies to the true fraternity between the two nations.
According to the Speaker of the National Assembly, the long-standing cordial relations will be further strengthened by the construction of the railroad linking the Republic of Burundi, the United Republic of Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of Congo. He concluded his speech by expressing his gratitude: "We are grateful for the good relations established between our two countries and our peoples. We hope that you will remain our ambassador to our friends, depending on the possibilities and opportunities that arise wherever you go", declared Right Honorable Speaker.
