Celebrated under the theme: "Visionaries, be models in increasing production", the International Workers’ Day was celebrated throughout the country. In Cankuzo province, the ceremonies related to that event were presided over by the Speaker of the National Assembly, the Right Honorable Gelase Daniel Ndabirabe, who delivered the speech on behalf of His Excellency the President of the Republic who also presided over such ceremonies in Bururi province.

In the speech, His Excellency vigorously urged Burundians to fight against laziness and to commit themselves to work in order to achieve the vision of Burundi as an emerging country in 2040 and a developed country in 2060.

The President of the Republic often reiterates: "A country only boosts its economy when its entire population rises as one to get to work and increase production." It is a reality that Burundi is still far from development because of the long years that its sons and daughters have spent tearing themselves apart instead of working together. That is why leaders must take the lead now, taking into account that Burundi is entering a new era.
The National Development Forum of Burundi held from April 20 to 21, 2023 released the vision of Burundi in 2040 and 2060. His Excellency the President of the Republic wants a peaceful Burundi, where the population has enough to eat, where every child in the country is in school and with considerable access to health care; a country where every citizen has an activity that provides him with an income that allows him to meet his needs. "We want a clean, prosperous country, with public infrastructure and modern means of transportation, whether by lake, rail, road or air," said His Excellency Evariste Ndayishimiye.

To make that possible, a change of mentality is needed. It is then necessary to work diligently, especially in the production sectors, and to evaluate each time the step taken. Burundians are urged to always defend the interests of their country in the implementation of projects, whether they are funded by the Government or by foreign funds. In that perspective, moralization sessions related to patriotism will be given regularly and the youth will be mobilized to work in association in order to fight against laziness.

The Head of State wants enlightened leaders because the country cannot move forward without intelligent, visionary leaders who are models for development work. Corruption, injustice and red tape must be banished.

The watchword is to work in transparency, to manage the common goods well, to increase production in order to be able to export and acquire foreign currency necessary for the implementation of the country’s projects.
He also called on all Burundians to set a personal development goal to be achieved by 2040 and 2060. To the leaders of the country, His Excellency the President of the Republic insists: "Each one in his field, let him excel and bring a tangible contribution to the improvement of the living conditions of the population."
