"Let us further support the sovereignty of our States". This was the statement made by the Speaker of Burundi National Assembly, the Right Honorable Gelase Daniel Ndabirabe, at the 146th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union held in Manama, the capital of Bahrain, from March 12 to 15, 2023.
The general debate focused on the theme "Promoting peaceful coexistence and inclusive societies: combating intolerance". The aim of the conference was to identify the causes that hinder the development of countries. All parliamentarians were invited to become more involved in the realization of their representative mission.

Designated as a wise man in the parliamentary family, the Rt. Gelase Daniel Ndabirabe urged the MPs in attendance to put forward the political parties to which they belong, to make peaceful coexistence a fact, to strengthen the consolidation of exchanges at the sub-regional, regional and international levels; to avoid being a source of instability and insecurity of any form and to clean up cultures and languages capable of stigmatizing others. All this is to protect the sovereignty of countries. Thus, the other will become the reason for my being, he concluded.

Among the five emergency issues debated was that of the Democratic Republic of Congo, which calls for an end to the aggression, occupation and massive violation of human rights. However, after the vote, Burundi supported it even though it was not ultimately approved by the plenary.
On the sidelines of this Assembly, the Right Honorable Daniel Gelase Ndabirabe took part in the 2nd Conference of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement. In his statement, the Speaker of the National Assembly suggested that the Network be institutionalized in order to make it more effective. Thus, within the standing committees, the mechanisms of exchange between the parliamentarians of the Non-Aligned Movement and those of the nationals would be put in the spotlight and the representatives would find the opportunity to go beyond the partisan cleavages to engage in a deep, serene and peaceful debate. He added that the parliamentarians of the Non-Aligned Network must redouble their efforts to achieve their goals in this changing world. In closing his remarks, Rt. Hon. Gelase Daniel Ndabirabe urged parliamentarians to fight more than ever for peace and peaceful coexistence in the world.

On the sidelines of these conferences, in the framework of parliamentary diplomacy, the Speaker of the National Assembly held one-on-one meetings respectively with the First Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of the Democratic Republic of Congo with a view to strengthening the parliamentary cooperation that has always characterized the two parliaments and with the Speaker of the Parliament of the East African Community (EALA).
