The Speaker of the National Assembly invited the MPs to sensitize the population on irrigation techniques. The Right Hon. Gelase Daniel Ndabirabe made this recommendation to the Members of Parliament who begin their parliamentary recess, Monday, October 31, 2022 in his speech marking the closure of the ordinary parliamentary session of August 2022, based on the low rainfall observed at the beginning of the period of the cropping season A 2023.

During the closed session, the National Assembly experienced some sorrowful events, notably the death of Honorable Pierre Claver NIYUBAHWE, who died at Roi Khaled Hospital on September 23, 2022, and that of the former Member of Parliament, Honorable Anglebert NGENDABANKA, who died at Ngozi Hospital on October 3, 2022. At the time of his death, he was a member of the support staff at the National Assembly.

In addition to the 8 bills analyzed and adopted during the session, the control of the Government actions was carried out via the Prime Minister and three members of the Government. The National Assembly also proceeded to the approval of Lieutenant General of Police Gervais Ndirakobuca as Prime Minister, to the election of the members of the East African Legislative Assembly, EALA in acronym, and of the members of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, CVR. And given that the Ombudsman’s mandate is coming to an end, the Lower House of the Burundian Parliament has already completed all the steps for his replacement, namely the appeal for applications, the receipt of applications and their pre-selection.

As a whole, the Bureau of the National Assembly is satisfied with the work already accomplished, especially in terms of legislation. Indeed, 88 bills have been analyzed and adopted since the beginning of the 2020-2025 legislature to date. He encourages MPs to keep this thirst for a job well done which guarantees the well-being of our fellow citizens.

The National Assembly did not fail to express its deep gratitude to the Head of State, His Excellency Evariste NDAYISHIMIYE, He, who does not cease to invest body and soul to find fast and adequate solutions to the concerns of the population.

The ceremony was attended by several distinguished guests, notably the Members of Government, the Members of the Diplomatic and Consular Corps accredited to Burundi, to name but a few.
