Carried by His Excellency the President of the Republic, the Torch of Peace illuminated on Saturday November 27, 2021, the extension works of the National Assembly offices. Major General Evariste Ndayishimiye, leading the Torch of Peace caravan, mixed cement and rubble to make the concrete that was immediately transported in chains to cement the slab of the building. After lending a hand, the Head of State also contributed bags of cement and concrete irons.

These offices will be inaugurated in the beginning of 2022, said the Speaker of the National Assembly, who expressed his satisfaction with the satisfactory state of the building. It is an unequivocal proof that Burundians are capable. This is the slogan of the responsible and industrious Government, which has placed work among its priorities. This construction site is a way to materialise this maxim.

Thanks to its determination, the National Assembly has set its sights on this flagship project. With God’s help, the dream is becoming reality. While acknowledging that the road was full of obstacles, Right Honorable Gelase Daniel Ndabirabe took the opportunity to thank loudly and clearly all those who have extended a hand to the National Assembly, especially the Presidency of the Republic of Burundi which had already contributed by granting concrete irons.

In addition to the external partners, the Speaker of the lower house of the Burundian parliament also praised the bravery of the staff of the National Assembly who sacrificed their weekend to give their heart and soul to the project. The extension project was dictated by the cramped conditions of the offices of the MPs and staff of the National Assembly.

Before closing his speech, the Speaker of the National Assembly recommended strict compliance with the barrier measures of covid-19, whose new structure with more than 60 facets promises to be more deadly than ever, according to health specialists. Burundi has been spared, compared to other countries. But there is no point in sitting back. Experience has already shown that it is travellers who spread the pandemic in the country.
