The National Assembly analysed and unanimously adopted, Tuesday, October 5, 2021, the Senate’s amendments relating to the "Draft law revising the law n֯1/11 of 14 July 2009 on the creation, organisation and functioning of the Burundi Revenue Office". The plenary agreed 100% with the opinion of the Committee on Public Accounts, Economic Affairs and Planning.
As an example, in form, the Senate had proposed in article 4, point k) 1st line, to write the word "minister" starting with a capital letter and to do the same everywhere in the bill. "It is to respect the customs", he argued by way of motivation. The committee in charge rejected the amendment with the reasoning that it was an abuse of capitalization in a law.
The Senate also amended all the pages of the bill by proposing to number the pages according to the format "1, 2, 3..." instead of "1 of...". Motivation: To harmonise with other texts already promulgated. The amendment was accepted.
The bill, which was the subject of the day’s plenary session, was unanimously adopted by the MPs on 9 September 2021.
