The Olympic Games have an impact on the economy of the locality in which they are held, according to the 2nd Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Abel Gashatsi, at the end of community development work in which he took part on Saturday 15/7/2023 at Gatare, in the commune of Gisozi, in Mwaro province.
Welcoming the idea of building such a large stadium, Hon. Gashatsi also winked at the inhabitants of Mwaro for the opportunities offered by the 2nd stadium at continental level currently being built in their province. These opportunities include an increasing number of athletes, more jobs, more tourism and hospitality services, more business and so on.
On the other hand, he pointed out, it is their responsibility to safeguard peace and social cohesion, as well as mutual respect between different strata of the population, otherwise the stadium will bring no added value to the population if there is instability.
Before concluding his remarks, Hon. Abel Gashatsi stressed the importance of working diligently. No one is supposed to eat without having worked," he insisted. He then invited the people of Mwaro to embark on agropastoral development projects, such as raising rabbits, chickens and goats, as well as growing crops in the marshes, even during the dry season, and irrigating their fields. This will enable Burundi to achieve its vision of becoming an emerging country by 2040 and a developed country by 2060.
In closing, he urged food producers to take their surplus to public granaries to avoid theft or mismanagement.
