The opening of a Burundian embassy in Havana, on one hand, and the repatriation of the Cuban representation office from Kampala to Bujumbura, on the other hand, announced the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation, are logical consequences of the consolidation of bilateral cooperation relations between Cuba and Burundi. Strengthened by the reciprocal exemption of visas for holders of diplomatic, official and service passports, the bill containing this cooperation agreement was unanimously adopted by the MPs present at the plenary session of Friday, January 12, 2024.
For Ambassador Albert Shingiro, the removal of visas for holders of diplomatic, official and service passports will enable a more rapid exchange, regularity and fluidity in the movements of officials of the two respective administrations, called upon on a daily basis to collaborate and exchange with a view to taking relations of friendship and cooperation to higher levels. It would also create favorable conditions for economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries.
Cooperation between Cuba and Burundi dates back fifty (50) years, and has focused on the health sector, given that Cuba ranks first in the world in terms of doctor-to-population ratio," continued the Member of the Government, before adding that Cuba also has a special place in regional groups, in the non-aligned movement and in the countries of the South with China (G77+China).
