CULTURE, AN IDENTITY OF A PEOPLE

A big crowd was busy on Saturday, April 29, 2023, making concrete for the pavement of the Reading and Cultural Animation Center of Mukenke, in Bwambarangwe commune of Kirundo province. It is in this atmosphere that the First Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, the Honorable Sabine Ntakarutimana, accompanied by some Members of Parliament elected in the constituency and the Minister of National Defense and Veterans, a native of the province, found this hard-working population in order to contribute to these community development works. Determined, the participants in this activity did not disarm in the face of the rain, which bodes a blessing in Burundian tradition.

On the subject of tradition, the Center will allow the population to go back to the roots of Burundian culture, revealed the First Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, explaining that culture distinguishes one people from another. To sum up, culture is an identity of a people, she concluded.
Once stocked with books, the Center will also help students to complement the limited knowledge acquired in class, added Honorable Sabine Ntakarutimana before inviting everyone to resource themselves at the center.
During his welcoming speech, the Chief of Staff of Kirundo Governor’s Office reported cases of parents who pull their children out of school.

The First Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly could not believe it. Is this practice of yesteryear still going on when the Government is making efforts to provide free education at a certain level! She was astonished. And she urged her entourage to approach the school counselor to dissuade such parents if the situation ever arose.

Otherwise, in such conditions, the vision of seeing Burundi as an emerging country in 2040 and developed in 2060 will not be achieved, regretted the First Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly who then explained the pillars of this vision based on agropastoralism and environmental protection. Thus, the slogan dear to His Excellency the President of the Republic, namely "umunwa wose uronke ico upfungura, umupfuko wose uronke amafaranga" (Let every mouth have something to eat and every pocket money), will be easily implemented.
In all this, she recalled, the consolidation of peace and security is an essential element, without which everything would be doomed to failure.
