Every first Saturday of August, Burundi celebrates the communal festival. It is an opportunity for the resident population of the commune and the natives to gather, to exchange on the development of their commune, to evaluate the activities carried out and to talk about the future prospects.

On Saturday, August 6, 2022, the communal festival 2022 edition was celebrated throughout the country.
The Right Honorable Gelase Daniel Ndabirabe, Speaker of the National Assembly, accompanied by his family, joined the population and the natives of his native commune of Matongo in Kayanza province in the related ceremonies, which took place at the market of Kivumu known as Ruvumera II.

The Administrator of the Matongo commune, after reviewing the overall situation in the commune, which is good in all areas, then presented the main achievements, which include the construction of the communal hospital, which is now functional, the health center of Murambi and the market sheds of Kivumu.

The population of Matongo is also becoming aware of the need to cultivate during the dry season using watering systems, and satisfactory results have already been recorded on 10 hills. Water sources have also been developed on seven hills with the support of the natives to allow the population to have access to drinking water. It was then the occasion for the communal administrator of Matongo to thank all those who give themselves to the development of their commune starting with the Right Honorable President of the National Assembly.

As for the projects planned for the next year, the Matongo commune intends to build a multipurpose meeting room, offices and three additional sheds at the Kivumu market.

The Right Honorable Gelase Daniel Ndabirabe, Speaker of the National Assembly, praised the achievements presented by the Matongo commune. "When the People take a commitment with firmness, it ends up being realized," he said, while asking the population to work always aiming at excellence.

In addition to the projects of the Matongo commune, the Right Honorable Gelase Daniel Ndabirabe suggested to think of building communal offices as well. As for the extension of the market of Kivumu, the Right Honorable Speaker of the National Assembly brought his stone to the edifice by promising to build personally a big shed within a period not exceeding one month.
